Spotify Tip: How to get your music on Spotify?

How’s it going ladies and gentleman. It’s been a while since I wrote a blog article. With that being said excuse any typos(lol). But in all seriousness, it has never been as practical to make a living from your music as it is now. With streaming services such as Spotify, iTunes, and Tidal making a living from music has never been easier.

Putting your music online is great. Websites like SoundCloud allows you to put your music online however they do not pay you for your streams. Now you can sign up for an online music distributor and promote your music and collect money from those streams. Before now you had to sign a deal to make any real moves in music. I’ve been strongly saying for at least the last 10 years that independent is the way to go. The industry is moving to streaming and digital sales at an alarming pace. Don’t get left behind.

Right now is the time to get a piece of that pie. You can make a living from your music. You can do it independently. Do not be stuck in the mindset that the only way to make it in music is to get signed to a major label deal.

With all of these things in mind. I’ve been using a tool that will allow you to not only put your music on Spotify but other online stores such as iTunes, tidal and many more.

This website is called DistroKid. Its a low-cost alternative to CDBaby or TuneCore. With DistroKid, you only pay 19.99 once a year for a membership. You do not have an individual charge like you would with TuneCore. An added benefit to DistroKid is that you get s verified Spotify artist page. ?

Producers Blog Post | How To Solidify Your Brand

When you are starting an internet business we all know that your brand is very important. Even more important than your brand reputation is your brand recognition. To have customers and a comfortable lifestyle people must know how you are in the first place.

How do I do that you may ask?

First things first having a signature in all of your creations is essential. You may hear or see a few different aliases for a signature some of which may be a voice tag, a beat tag, a vocal tag, a voice over, a DJ drop. A voice signature is a short saying or phrase that often repeats throughout the musical composition to let listeners know who created the body of work. Examples of which include the Maybach Music tag that you hear on all of Rick Ross’s songs. Another example would beat the dark child tag you hear on all of Rodney Jerkins beats. When you hear either one of those signature’s your immediate know who is associated with that beat or song.

Why is people knowing my brand important?

Think about it like this…. What if one of your beats go viral how do you expect the listener to know you made it. How do you expect people to come to you to purchase other beats if they like your style of music? You can solve that problem easily and quickly by getting a signature. It offers you some protection and it lets people know who made the beat. It’s a win-win for you as a producer. If you are just starting out I strongly urge you to get a beat tag to place in your music compositions.

That is not the only step that you need to take to solidify your brand but it’s definitely a start. We will be writing more articles on the subject. Producers Blog Post : The Importance Of Having Your Own Website

The Importance Of Having Your Own Website

People ask me daily how they can make money with their beats. One of the most important factors in being able to sell beats consistently is being able to be found. Through the years, I have found that I made more money consistently when I got off the third party music websites like Soundclick and Myflashstore. I’m not saying that this is the only way to make a full-time income but this article is about that I believe and have found to be true. There has always been a debate about whether is it better to use a third party website or to have your own website and many people will tell you different things. Through my own personal experience, I found that I made about 60% more money on my own website than I ever did with a third party website.

Why is that you may ask?

I’ve found that when I hosted my own website I had much more freedom to implement REAL marketing and promotional strategies. I had the ability to make my website look and do exactly what I wanted it to do.

How is that beneficial to me?

There is a whole world of marketing and business out there. You will find a lot of “producers turned marketers” that will try to teach you how to sell beats online. Some have good information and some are the same old recycled information that the marketer before them taught. This information will typically only get you a few beat sales but nothing sustainable. Once I dove into the true power of marketing, I found that I needed to be able to completely control my website as a whole and also the message that I was conveying.

Another reason I started hosting my own website is because there’s a lot of competition on these third-party websites.  Because there is no magic bullet or a possible way that you would be able to keep up without having to invest a considerable amount of money (which I did not have at the time) I decided to do my own thing.

Starting your own website and optimizing it for success is not easy. Honestly in life anything worth doing is never easy. There are tons of web hosting providers but my favorite is Hosting24.com. I’ve used them for years. I’ve never had problems with them and their customer service is great. What more can you ask for if you’ve never built a website on your own before? Hosting24 is my go to hosting provider and they always have great deals going on. For instance, I only pay about $15 every 3 months and it comes with a free domain. I used to spend more than that on useless crap every day. Not knowing I could take that money and build a business that I could have forever.

mailing list

Blog Post: Is A Mailing List Really Important?

Anyone who owns an online business will tell you that a mailing list is EXTREMELY important to your business. Think about it … Social Media is a tricky phenomenon. Both Facebook and Twitter have an algorithm that manipulates your post or tweets that are being seen. That reason right there along with the fact that all of your friends and followers are never in a billion years going to be online at the same exact time that you post an update means you have to find a better solution that will get your campaigns viewed.

For those of you that do not have many fans or followers, you are hugely at a disadvantage to competitors who are more known. That is why when starting out it is definitely extremely important for you to have a mailing list. Once you send that email it will be in their inbox forever. (At least until they check and delete it.) If your message or update is in their inbox they will have to view it at some point even if they don’t act on your email.

Here are two mail list providers that I have personally used and will recommend to anyone who asks:

Mailchimp: This is a good free mailing list that I used when I first got started. You can get up to 2,000 subscribers and 20,000 in the forever free plan. It may not seem like much but it’s just enough to get started. You can start building a good solid brand with the forever free package. Once you move up in subscribers and you start sending out more and more emails you can move up to a plan that can handle your email campaigns.

Aweber: Once I started getting more and more subscribers I switched over to Aweber. It has quite a bit more features than Mailchimp and it offers solid results at solid prices. I found that when I switched over Aweber had a better delivery rate for my emails. Mailchimp seemed to get more emails caught up in spam even though I was not offering anything or selling anything. Another thing that I like about Aweber is that they have excellent customer support. They offer phone support, chat, and email support which is always a win-win.

Both of these options have served me well within the different stages of my company and I am very proud to vouche for either of them.

Exclusive Rights Contract

Free Exclusive Rights Contract

Back when I first started selling beats online it was hard for me to know how the actual business of everything goes. I didn’t know anything about contracts or where to get one from. I now have my own exclusive rights contract that I am happy to share with you. There are a lot of contracts online that may or may not do the trick but I thought I would share mine just in case you are just starting and you just happen to find this one. Please make sure that any time you sell a beat exclusively you have your contracts in order.

If you are a producer you can download a free exclusive rights contract template from right here. Enjoy!

twitter exposure

Blog Post: How to Maximize Your Twitter Exposure

How To Maximize Your Twitter Exposure.

We all want a better presence on Social Media. I’ve seen a lot of my success in the beginning come solely from Twitter. I get people asking me daily “how did I get so many followers” and I tell them truthfully. My followers came from dedication and hard work. Today I’m going to give you some tips on maximizing your twitter exposure so that you can reap the most benefits from your marketing efforts. I’m also going to show you how to manage your audience as well as target the right people so that you are properly marketing efficiently.

Tip 1: Target Your Followers

When I first started trying to build my business up on Twitter I was doing everything completely wrong. I used all the wrong techniques such as follow trains and mass following untargeted people. I had the idea that having a lot of followers mean everything. It didn’t occur to me that having a lot of people on my list didn’t mean anything if they were not looking for what I was offering. I know is seems repetitive and annoying but please intentionally follow your new prospects. It would make no sense to have 40,000 followers if only 100 would be possibly interested in your product or services.

How do you follow people in your niche? You follow people who most likely will have a direct interest in your products. You do not want to follow someone that has an interest in soccer they will never do business with you. This is not the type of person that you would want to waste your time on.

Follow people that are following your competitors. Of course, if someone has an interest in your competitor then they are looking for what you are offering. Find a way to make them see what more value that you are offering versus your competitor.

Keyword search for targeted followers using Twitters search bar. Sometimes people will tweet “Looking for beats” or “I need beats” follow these people as you already know what they need.

Tip 2: Hashtags & Twitter Search

Get specific when looking for new people to follow and eventually build a relationship with. The best way to do that is by using Twitter Search. By typing in specific keywords or even hashtags that people use, your search results can bring a lot of interesting people that you wouldn’t normally find if you were just browsing around. Think about keywords that you already see people using a lot that would be the perfect lead.

– Using hashtags for targeted engagement. Sometimes artist tweet about their new music or their video that they just released. Research some of the hot keywords that people are using when they are talking about their new music. Use it to search to find some new artist that you can market too.

– Look for people who will be interested in the service or product that you are providing. Once again using a detailed search you will always be able to run into new people who are looking for exactly what you are offering. By targeting your audience you are cutting down on wasted time by trying to get any and everyone to listen and eventually purchase your material.

Tip 3: Engagement

Last but not least Engage with your followers. No one likes to feel like the only reason you connected is so that you can sell them something. Actually take interest in your followers music. Listen to it and give them constructive feedback. Help them get better at their craft and in turn they will value your opinion and your advice.- Make sure to Retweet people back. Don’t expect people to just share your content. Show people you care about them by Retweeting their content and tweets as well.

– Make sure to Retweet people back. Don’t expect people to just share your content. Show people you care about them by Retweeting their content and tweets as well.
– Don’t spam. (This one is a biggie.) If no one knows you they definitely don’t care about your spammy link. Actually, build relationships with people. Relationships are a biggie in business and it definitely is a very important factor in the beginning.
– Share actual value. No one will see value in your promoting your links on your Twitter feed all day every day. Post things that will add value to your follows day. Whether it be a quote, or a business tip, or a piece of advice make sure that you are contributing something of value to people’s live daily.

I hope you enjoyed reading this post on maximizing your twitter exposure. If you have any ideas about blog post you would like to see in the future feel free to send us an email. We would love your thoughts and we love to be able to add value to your lives as well as help you with your business.

make more money

Blog Post: How To Make More Money Online

Over the years I found myself trying to push the envelope while finding more ways to diversify my portfolio. In doing so I found ways to make more money. Today I’m going to give you three tips to make more money online.

Tip 1: Make More Money By Monetizing Your Content

There’s a variety of services out there that will allow you to monetize your content. Sometime’s it’s as easy as a few clicks of a button without any major configuring.Once you get started give away free content (aka value) and watch those dollars roll in. If you use YouTube my recommendation for a monetization service would be AdSense. Anytime someone watches your video they have the opportunity to click an advertisement. And anytime someone clicks an advertisement Adsense will pays you. (Note: Please do not click on your own ads. Google punishes this act by permanently disabled your AdSense account forever.)

Tip 2: Make More Money By Charging For Collaborations

Once your fan base grows large enough consider offering producers paid collaborations. When I started figuring out how to get my music heard was hard. I would’ve definitely paid for the opportunity to share my music to some of the followers of a larger producer. It’s been a lot of talk about producers offering paid collabs. I personally I think it’s a great idea to earn some extra coins.

Tip 3: Make More Money By Offer Merchandise

There is a lot of merchandise out there that you can sell to make extra money. If you do not have a product you can still sell merchandise. You can offer merchandise by becoming an affiliate to another company. Because company’s are always looking for ways to sell more products. They will pay you to for selling their products. And in additional to being an affiliate, if you have a product of your own there is a multitude of ways to get people interested in it. Seriously there are people who make millions of dollars just by offering affiliate products. Of course I’m not recommending you to do that. It’s always more safe and solid for you to have your own product as well. The possibilities are endless.

In conclusion, there are a lot of ways to make more money online. It’s up to you to figure out what works best for you.

Blog Post: How To Start Your Own Beat Selling Website

Blog Post: How To Start Your Own Beat Selling Website

In this day and age, it’s extremely important that you have your own website if you plan to have a very successful online business. In this blog post, we are going to show you how to start your own website. Here are some steps to help you get started.

Step 1: Think of Your Domain Name Or Choose Hosting Provider (ie. www.queabeats.com)

Most hosting providers provide a domain when you purchase a hosting package. I use bluehost.com.This has been great to me over the years. I couldn’t imagine switching unless another hosting company was to sweep me off my feet. Even though they are extremely inexpensive another reason I love this company is because they have excellent customer service. To me, customer service plays a huge part in my decision making when I decide to shop with a company. When shopping around for a hosting package I recommend using the lowest tier package that they have. (You don’t need all the bells and whistles when you are first starting. You may upgrade your package as your business grows. )

Step 2: Get A CMS (Content Management System)

There are a few different CMS’s out there and out of all of the ones that I have tried it was apparent that WordPress was the one that completely fit my needs. I also found that it is the most universal when or if you were to get a web designer to come in and do some work for you. WordPress is user-friendly and it’s very organized. There are thousands of tutorials out there that can help you figure out exactly what you are doing.

Step 3: Figure Out Which Store Option You Want

There are 2 main options you can use when it comes to actually selling your product (in my case that would be my beats). You could either use a third party player from a site like Airbit or you could buy a theme that will give you a good beat store. (My suggestion for a good theme, if you are on a tight budget, would be the Music Maker Theme.) With either option that you choose, it would be best if customers can download their beats as soon as they are paid for.

Step 4: Upload Your Inventory

I think this one is pretty self-explanatory. Upload your beats and set your pricing. I suggest you have a set pricing for every licensing option that you have. Both Airbit and the Music Maker Theme allow you to put in your beat description the beat tempo. (Don’t be lazy it will save you from a thousand artist asking you for the tempo later on.)

Start building that brand and building your business.

How to Increase Beat Sells

Blog Post: How to Increase Beat Sells

We all have that burning question. How to make more money? Today I’m going to go over  few tips that will help you increase those beat sells over time. Remember nothing that truly makes a difference to your income over time will be instantaneous.  So if you work this tips you will be bound to stabilize and increase your income. In the world of online business, there are a lot of different things that will require your attention especially if you are running a one-man show. It can almost feel impossible to keep up with demand especially if you do not have a team like some other business models suggest.

Tip 1: Stay Focused

We all know how hard it is to stay on task with life moving at 100 mph. I get it, I’ve been there too. But it’s important to remember that you can’t make more money if you’re not consistently staying on task. I now take a more standardize approach to my “work” schedule. I make sure to write all my goals down the night before I go to sleep. So that next day I have an agenda of how to efficiently run my day. I make it a point to take a 15-minute break in between tasks whether I’m switching to a different beat or writing a blog post or whatever task I’m working on. I’ve boosted my productive just by giving my mind a few minutes to rest before I start on something else.

Tip 2: Email Marketing

When I started selling beats I did not realize the power of email list. It was a BIG mistake. I highly recommend that if you do not have one yet you start one today. I started out using MailChimp and then I advanced onto AWeber to be able to have more freedom to really get the most use out of my mailing list. Email marketing is so important to your brand and it is an instrumental tool to reach your past buyers and turn them into repeat buyers. Think about it, how will your customers know that you just released more beats? Yeah, you can post on social media but everyone is not on at the same exactly time every day. You also don’t want to share your link to frequently and be labeled a spammer (who likes those). If you send an email to someone’s email box the chances of them seeing it is way higher because they will check their email and see it at some point. Don’t expect everyone who joins to buy right away but as you list grows you will see your sells start to grow as well.

Tip 3: Be Willing To Work With All Budgets

One of the ways to scale up your business is by offering more options. One size doesn’t fit all in this case and everyone doesn’t have the same budget. Some people can only afford the basic package and some will be much more willing to spend money with you if you offer them more products at discounted prices.  People love to feel like they are getting a deal. Who doesn’t? Try doing a “Buy 2 get 2 Free” deal or something along those lines. It doesn’t cost you much overhead to make beats unless you are running a big operation. In other word’s your profit margin is pretty large and I think it’s a good idea to give all people a fair chance to work with your beats.

Tip 4: Use Ads To Increase Beat Sells

I’ve seen and heard a lot of misleading information regarding how to make money online. I’ve seen people sell their ebooks promising people “free” ways to make money online. But the old saying is “Nothing in life is free”. To get the most out of your online store you will definitely have to invest at some point to scale up. My recommendation would be to invest in ads. (Note: Please do thorough research before invest serious cash into ads. You will not make a good ROI if you do not do it wisely.) There are a lot of ways to use ads nowadays some of which may be Google Adwords or Facebook Ads. I’ve even seen some success with Twitter ads.

Tip 5: Work Relentlessly

I know it get’s tiring sometimes working ALL the time. Before I found out how to be more efficient in my work efforts I realized that I was not spending all the time or making all the efforts I needed to really make my dreams become a reality. You have to be willing to always push the envelope and be radical with your work efforts. Realize that any sacrifices you make now will only enhance your  tomorrow. The pain that you are going to feel will not last forever it’s only temporary.

I hope that you will incorporate these methods into your daily habit and over time more success will come. Be patient and work hard your time is coming.

Making Beats Or Promoting Material

Blog Post: Should You Spend More Time Making Beats Or Promoting Your Material

Making Beats or Promoting Material

One of the questions that I get a lot is “How much time should you spend making beats vs promoting the material”. There is no right or wrong answer here. What I hope to provide with this post is guided feedback that can help you come up with the right solution for you and your business. Learn if you should spend more time making beats or promoting material below.

When I first started making beats I did not understand how to properly run a business. I thought that just because I had beats available then people would buy them. NOT TRUE. I eventually learned that I needed a catalog of at least 30-50 beats to be able to have a running chance at keeping up with competition. If you look at the competitors they have upwards of 100 beats or more. I’ve found that people like variety and that everyone doesn’t like the same type of beat.

In the Beginning

It is more important to spend more time making beats until you have at least 30-50 beats in your catalog. Once you have enough beats you can start scaling back on making beats and focusing more on promoting your store.

After Accumulating A Decent Sized Catalog

You should definitely spend a lot more time promoting your beats than actually making them. Why? Because you have to grow a fanbase. You have to give people value and a reason to pick you over another producer. You have to be crafty with your marketing and actually, know what you are doing.

Once You Have a Decent Sized Fanbase

At this point, you should be able to scale back on having to promote all the time. By now you should have almost consistent sales and a little money in your pocket to pay for promotion. If you are paying for promotion then you will not have to physically be promoting as much so you can focus more on maintaining your beat store as well as maintaining any promotion that you do. Another key point… by this time is you should be trying to maintain customer relationships.
